Social Media for Nonprofits Conference

Social Media for Nonprofits is coming to Vancouver on June 25th. It’s a great one-day conference that highlights strategies and best practices for using social media, catered directly to nonprofits and charities.

I sat down with Jeff Golby, founding member of Seacrest Foundation, this week to talk about the conference and why you should attend. Jeff will be one of the hosts at the conference.

What’s so great about Social Media for Nonprofits?

I’m a big fan of Social Media for Nonprofits because of the consistent quality of speakers they secure, the dedication to the very specific field of learning (social media and nonprofits) and their practical approach to helping nonprofits harness the power of social media in a new way. The conference organizers do this all over the world and as such pull together a great team with a broad range of knowledge and international expertise — that’s why I love the conference.

Why should I attend in person? Can’t I just follow along on social media?

Every single person, charity, corporation or group is figuring out how to best use Social Media. It’s a new space, and everyone is learning. Being at the conference allows you to bounce ideas off one another, rub shoulders with people who have helped create widely successful campaigns and participate in a range of engaging seminars.

Which talk are you most excited about?

Tough question. I think Jason Mogus [Principal Strategies, Communicopia] is pretty high up there for me. He’s got such a range of experience, having worked with massive movements to small grassroots organizations and I’m really excited to learn from him.

You can register for the conference at Social Media for Nonprofits, or better yet, you can enter out Retweet competition to try to win two tickets for free. The contest will be running from now until Thursday, June 13th at noon. Here’s the tweet:
